Jyoka Brings Sengoku-Era Castle Building and Samurai Warfare to Steam This November

Build a thriving castle town, defend your territory and conquer rival strongholds in an ambitious Japanese strategy game created by a solo developer.

Fans of historical city-building and strategy games have a new adventure to look forward to this November, as Jyoka -Castle town- prepares to launch on PC via Steam.

Developed over three years by Japanese solo developer sfvsoft, the game transports players to 16th-century Japan during the Sengoku period, an era of rival warlords, territorial conflicts and powerful samurai.

Combining detailed settlement construction with real-time strategy and large-scale military campaigns, Jyoka challenges players to transform a small territory into a powerful domain capable of unifying Japan.

From a Small Castle Town to a Powerful Domain

In Jyoka, players begin their journey as a minor local lord, responsible for developing and protecting their own territory.

The experience is divided into three distinct stages, each introducing new challenges as the settlement grows.

Initially, the focus is on building a prosperous castle town, gathering resources and developing the infrastructure needed to support a growing population.

Players can construct more than 190 different types of buildings, giving them considerable freedom to shape their settlement and establish a functioning economy.

As the town expands, attention gradually shifts towards military defence, with neighbouring territories presenting an increasing threat.

Players must prepare for enemy invasions, strengthen their defences and ensure their growing settlement can withstand attacks from rival forces.

Eventually, the game moves into its final stage, where players can take the offensive and attempt to conquer other territories.

The ultimate objective is to bring the country under a single ruler.

Build Your Settlement Almost Anywhere in Japan

One of Jyoka’s more interesting features is the freedom to choose where your settlement begins.

Rather than limiting players to a handful of predetermined starting locations, the game allows them to select almost any suitable area on its map of Japan.

There are some restrictions, including locations already occupied by enemy castles and particularly small, isolated islands.

This flexibility allows players to establish their domain in different regions and experiment with alternative approaches to expansion.

The strategic element extends beyond settlement construction, with 73 historically based Japanese castles available to besiege during military campaigns.

Players will need to balance economic growth with territorial defence before attempting to expand their influence across the country.

A City Builder for Peaceful Players Too

Although Jyoka places considerable emphasis on samurai warfare and territorial conquest, players won’t necessarily have to spend their time fighting.

The developer has confirmed that difficulty settings can be adjusted to focus exclusively on city-building, allowing those who prefer a more peaceful experience to concentrate on developing their ideal Japanese castle town.

It’s a welcome option for players who enjoy the creative and management aspects of strategy games without the pressure of constant military conflict.

Whether you’re interested in carefully planning an authentic-looking settlement or leading armies into battle, Jyoka aims to offer flexibility in how its historical setting is experienced.

Three Years of Solo Development

Jyoka represents three years of work from independent developer sfvsoft, bringing together an ambitious combination of city-building, resource management and real-time strategy.

The game has already attracted interest ahead of release, with the developer reporting thousands of Steam wishlist additions shortly after its store page became available.

Its historical setting, extensive building selection and mixture of peaceful construction and military conquest could make it an interesting prospect for fans of Japanese history and strategy games.

When Does Jyoka Release?

Jyoka -Castle town- launches on Monday, 16 November 2026, at 3am GMT in the UK, corresponding to 15 November in North America.

The game will be available for Windows PC through Steam, with support for English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese.

The developer has announced a US price of $29.99, with promotional discounts planned during the first month following release. UK pricing has not yet been confirmed.

Players interested in building their own Japanese stronghold can already add Jyoka to their Steam wishlist ahead of launch.

For a closer look at the game’s castle construction, landscapes and military gameplay, the developer has also released an official launch trailer.

With its combination of historical city-building, strategic warfare and the freedom to play at your own pace, Jyoka could be worth watching for anyone looking to build their own legacy in feudal Japan.
