Re-Volt Returns to PS5 and Nintendo Switch With Four-Player Split-Screen and Limited Physical Edition

The beloved 1999 RC racing classic makes its return to consoles with updated features, chaotic item battles and a special physical edition for Nintendo Switch collectors.

A classic from the golden age of arcade racing is back. Re-Volt, the cult-favourite remote-controlled car racing game originally released in 1999, is now available digitally on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Published by H2 Interactive, the new console releases bring the miniature racing experience to a modern audience, introducing several quality-of-life improvements while retaining the gameplay that helped make the original a fan favourite.

Alongside the digital launch, collectors can also get their hands on a limited Nintendo Switch physical edition, complete with exclusive packaging, merchandise and the game’s original soundtrack.

Small Cars, Massive Racing Adventures

Re-Volt takes an ordinary world and transforms it into an extraordinary racing playground, putting players behind the wheel of miniature radio-controlled cars.

Instead of traditional racing circuits, players compete across everyday environments that become enormous obstacles when viewed from just a few inches above the ground.

Supermarket aisles turn into high-speed straights, toy shops become challenging racing courses, and household objects create unpredictable hazards around every corner.

Other locations include museums and abandoned ghost towns, each bringing its own unique challenges.

With 28 RC cars to choose from, players can experiment with different handling characteristics while learning to master the game’s distinctive physics.

Tight corners, controlled slides and unpredictable landings all play a role in staying ahead of the competition.

Of course, driving skill alone won’t always guarantee victory.

More Power-Ups and Improved Gameplay

H2 Interactive has introduced several improvements designed to make Re-Volt more accessible without changing its familiar arcade racing formula.

One of the biggest changes is the ability to carry three power-ups simultaneously, compared with the original game’s single-item limit.

This gives players more flexibility when deciding whether to attack opponents, defend themselves or save a useful item for the closing stages of a race.

Weapons and equipment include rockets, bombs, oil slicks and battery boosts, creating opportunities to turn the tables on rivals even when victory looks unlikely.

The updated releases also introduce an in-game help system and a minimap, making it easier for players to navigate the game’s unusual racing environments.

Challenge Your Friends in Four-Player Split-Screen

For players who remember gathering around a television for multiplayer racing, Re-Volt is bringing back some familiar competition.

Both console versions support local split-screen multiplayer for up to four players, allowing friends and family to race against each other on the same system.

Alongside multiplayer, several classic game modes return.

Championship mode challenges players to compete across multiple races, while Time Trial focuses on setting the fastest possible lap times.

Stunt Arena offers a different kind of challenge, encouraging players to master vehicle handling and complete objectives beyond traditional racing.

The combination of different modes, varied tracks and unpredictable power-ups gives players plenty of ways to enjoy the miniature motorsport experience.

Nintendo Switch Gets a Special Physical Edition

Collectors have an additional reason to celebrate, with H2 Interactive introducing a limited physical release through its H2 Edition label.

The Nintendo Switch edition includes the complete game alongside several exclusive extras designed for fans of the original release.

The package features a limited-edition collector’s box, a metal slipcase, a three-piece sticker set and an English-language game manual.

Perhaps the most appealing addition for long-time fans is the two-disc original soundtrack, offering a nostalgic reminder of the game’s distinctive racing atmosphere.

The physical edition is listed at $29.99 through the publisher’s online store, with international delivery costs and availability dependent on the destination.

Players interested in securing a copy can order the Re-Volt H2 Edition directly from the official store.

H2 Interactive has also confirmed plans to expand its H2 Edition collection with additional physical releases in the future.

A Racing Classic Finds a New Generation

Originally launched in 1999, Re-Volt built its identity around an unusual concept: bringing the excitement of competitive racing to the world of miniature RC cars.

Its mixture of inventive environments, challenging handling and unpredictable weapons helped distinguish it from other racing games of the era.

More than 25 years later, the game’s arrival on modern consoles gives returning players an opportunity to revisit those familiar tracks while introducing younger audiences to its distinctive approach to arcade racing.

The addition of local multiplayer and updated gameplay systems should also make it easier for newcomers to jump straight into the action.

Re-Volt Is Available Now on PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Re-Volt launched digitally worldwide on Thursday, 5 November 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Players can find the game through the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, while the limited Nintendo Switch physical edition is available through H2 Interactive’s official online store.

With miniature racing cars, oversized environments and four-player split-screen competition, Re-Volt offers a welcome return for one of the more unusual arcade racing games of the late 1990s.

For those who spent hours racing tiny cars through supermarket aisles and toy shops, it’s time to charge the batteries and head back to the starting line.
